Damian Lillard Joins Milwaukee Bucks in Blockbuster Trade

Damian Lillard played 11 seasons with Portland and is the team’s all-time leading scorer.

In a stunning turn of events, NBA superstar Damian Lillard has been traded from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks. The move ends Lillard’s 11-year tenure with the Trail Blazers, during which he led the team to eight playoff berths, including a 2019 Western Conference finals appearance.

The 33-year-old guard is set to team up with two-time Kia MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. This pairing strengthens the Bucks’ pursuit of a championship, as Antetokounmpo seeks to lead Milwaukee to its second title since 2021.

The trade was part of a three-team deal also involving the Phoenix Suns. The Trail Blazers received Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, a 2028 first-round pick swap from Milwaukee, a 2029 first-round pick from Milwaukee and a 2030 first-round pick swap from Milwaukee1.

Lillard’s departure from Portland marks the end of an era for the Trail Blazers. He ranks first in team history in both points and 3-pointers. Over the years, he consistently reiterated his desire to stay in Portland and win a title with the team that drafted him. However, his wish for roster upgrades to compete for a championship led to his request to be moved.

Just hours after the trade was announced, Lillard released his new rap song, ‘Farewell’, perhaps signifying his emotional farewell to the city and fans that have supported him throughout his career.

Lillard is coming off a season in which he averaged 32.2 points per game for the Trail Blazers. He is a seven-time All-NBA selection and was selected to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team3. His career average of 25.2 points ranks fourth among active players (with at least 375 games) behind Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid and LeBron James.

As Lillard embarks on this new chapter with the Bucks, fans and analysts alike will be eagerly watching how this move shapes the landscape of the NBA.
